Throwing a child’s birthday party has become a task more akin to planning a wedding. Throwing a birthday party used to be as simple as renting a room in a local skating rink or throwing a party in your front yard. While these venues are still widely acceptable, party themes, party décor, and elaborate food has become the norm for

Social media usage has made moms feel like they have to go all out on their little one’s birthday parties, and even though this new birthday party décor might be a little on the fancy side, it is kind of a fun task for a mom to plan a sweet party for her child.

Popular Themes

One of the easiest ways to organize a social-media acceptable birthday party is to start by choosing a theme. Choosing a theme is easy and it will allow you to build a birthday party around that one theme. This creates easier organization for you as you move through planning your party.

In a brief explanation of each of the popular themes listed below, we will outline food ideas, entertainment ideas, and invitation ideas to help you create the best party you can.

Characters

If you were to ask your child what kind of birthday party they want, they are probably going to shout one of the many popular characters names. Children get wrapped up in the shows they love so it seems appropriate for them to reference one of these popular characters during their birthday party.

Invitations

One of the major positives for choosing a popular character for you party theme is that there is an abundance of pre-made invitations available for many popular character themes. Printing templates are also readily available for many popular characters.

Entertainment

For character themed parties, finding entertainment to go with your theme is fairly easy. Many of the party supplies stores have character themed games that are easy to set up.

You may also be able to find a jump house or a blow-up obstacle course that goes right along with your theme. Check out these jump houses linked below for some of the popular character themes.

Mickey Mouse

Dora the Explorer

Spongebob

Food

An easy way to tie your food back into your character themed party is to name the food after things the character likes or is known for. For example, in a Mickey Mouse themed party, you may choose to include chocolate covered donuts and name them “Mickey Mouse Ears.” This is a great way to add an extra little touch to your party.

Circus

A circus theme is another extremely popular theme for children’s birthday parties. It has become especially popular since the movie “The Greatest Showman” was released.

Invitations

This is another theme where finding an invitation is pretty simple. These can easily be found online or in a party store as a fill out template.

Entertainment

Hiring a mobile petting zoo to come to your child’s birthday party would be really cute for this theme. You should also check out this carousel jumper which is a great addition to a circus themed party.

Food

Popcorn and animal crackers are a great addition to a circus themed party. You can even rent a cotton candy machine or a popcorn popper if you wanted to add an extra special touch.

Beach Party/ Mermaids/Pirates

These themes are lumped together because they all have a fun summer and water play feel to them!

Invitations

All of these themes scream bright colors and drink umbrellas. It may even be a neat idea to throw a little beach umbrella into the envelope with this theme. These are easy to find templates for online, but you can also send out a simple bright colored invitation and it would fit right in with this theme.

Entertainment

Water slides are a great choice for entertainment at a beach themed party. A sandbox would also be a great addition for a toddler-friendly attraction that remains within your theme.

Food

When I think of a summer extravaganza that is implied by these three themes, I think of a snow cone machine. Of course including other beach themed food like “beach ball” cupcakes, or a really cool cake that features a beach theme is also a great addition to this party.

Other Things to Consider

Whatever your theme is, you need to make sure that you have the space ready for all of the guests that will join you for your celebration. Be sure to rent tables and chairs and if necessary you may want to consider canopies to keep your guests protected from the sun.
